TORONTO — Bell Media has struck a distribution deal with three major telecommunications companies to deliver its new video streaming service.The service, codenamed “Project Latte,” will be offered across Canada by Telus, Bell Aliant and Bell Canada, the multimedia giant announced Wednesday.Customers with Telus Optik TV, Bell Fibe TV and Bell Aliant FibreOP TV set-top boxes will be offered “Project Latte” when it launches. It will also be available via mobile apps, the web, game consoles and smart TVs.Bell Media says “Project Latte” will feature thousands of hours of television content. It’s the only streaming platform in Canada to boast HBO’s entire off-air library of shows including “Sex and the City,” “The Sopranos” and “The Wire.”“Project Latte” arrives on the heels of Rogers and Shaw Media’s Shomi, a streaming video service with a catalogue of popular shows including “Modern Family” and “New Girl” that was officially launched Tuesday.Bell Media launching video streaming service with entire HBO scripted libraryBell Media announced its “Project Latte” last week and promised it would be made available to every TV provider in Canada. first_imgHALIFAX – The Nova Scotia government has to reimburse a retiree for a court skirmish over a report suggesting a licence plate bearing his family name supports sexual violence against women.Lorne Grabher has been trying to reinstate his personalized licence plate since it was revoked in 2016 by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles following an anonymous complaint about the plate.He was awarded $750 in court costs in a decision released this week, although he won’t actually be getting a cheque. The money matches the $750 that Grabher was to have paid the Crown for an earlier skirmish over an affidavit.The same-costs award “will do justice between the parties,” said Supreme Court Justice Pierre Muise in a decision released Thursday.In February, Grabher’s lawyer, Jay Cameron, had fought to strike a Crown report linking the plate, which reads “GRABHER,” to derogatory comments about women made by U.S. President Donald Trump.The report was done by McGill University professor Dr. Carrie Rentschler, who has expertise in communications and gender studies. She referenced Trump’s boast that he could grab any woman he pleased by her genitals, which was caught on a 2005 tape released during his presidential campaign.At the time, Cameron argued that Rentschler’s report did not consider “GRABHER” as a name, but instead inferred that the plate was a direct reference to Trump’s controversial statement.“There is zero evidence in this case that refers to Donald Trump, with the exception of this report,” said Cameron in February.“I think that the court should ask itself whether or not the freedom of expression of Canadians is influenced in any way by comments by a foreign dignitary.”Crown lawyer Alison Campbell had argued that the report is relevant and necessary in deciding the case, saying the expert was simply asked to objectively determine: “Is this phrase offensive?”“Dr. Rentschler’s report is not a salacious magazine. It is a review of academic literature on the ways in which gender violence is represented and reinforced in society,” said Campbell, adding that the report notes that language can take on new meaning as the context changes.The hearing of Grabher’s motion in February took around 2.5 hours — around the same amount of time it took to hear the registrar’s motion to strike portions of Grabher’s affidavit.In his decision this week, Muise said he partially granted Grabher’s request to strike the report, saying the opinion expressed would need to undergo “substantial revisions” before it could be admissible in court.Grabher first purchased the personalized licence plate as a gift for his late father around 1990. Rabat – Inspired by the world’s peacemaker, King Mohammed VI paid homage to the late Nelson Mandela on Monday.The monarch addressed a message to the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit held at the UN headquarters in New York.After his greeting to the participants of the summit, the monarch said that the whole world “admires” Mandela for his “strength of character, his concern for vulnerable people and his fight, throughout his life, against discrimination and inequality.” According to the King’s message, read by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, Nelson Mandela was the “embodiment of an unshakeable faith in the virtues of dialogue, peace and tolerance.”The Nobel Peace Prize winner fought hard for justice, equality, and peace. He also dreamed of an end to people’s struggles and injustice in the world.The King recalled the friendly relationship Mandela had for Morocco and the support the North African nation gave for the African leader.The monarch said that Mandela “had sincere affection for my late father His Majesty King Hassan II.”He said that the affection was “mutual” as Morocco provided “unconditional” support for African liberation movements.The King then recalled that Mandela lived in Morocco between 1960 and 1962 “where he received the Kingdom’s support for his legitimate struggle.”The background given by the monarch aimed at underscoring “the convergence of two courses of history and the sense of a common commitment” rather than reminding “everyone of Morocco’s leading role in providing support to Mandela,” he said.The King also said that Mandela is among the African leaders “who were committed to humanist values and lofty principles.”In his long address to the Nelson Mandela Summit, the King spared no efforts to describe Mandela as a hero.Mandela died in his home in Johannesburg, South Africa, on December 5, 2013.The King said that Mandela showed dialogue and negotiation can be pursued. “Unfortunately, however, even when peace was within reach at times, we often let the occasion slip,” regretted the monarch.In 1995, Mandela publicly paid tribute to Morocco in a speech, thanking King Hassan II and his minister for African affairs for supporting him with funding, training, and weapons for his struggle.The King did not hesitate to respond to the requests of Mandela.According to Mandela, the King “understood my mission very well.” He added that the King asked him what “arms do you want, and where should I deliver them.”Referring to the world’s loss, King Mohammed VI concluded his message saying, “We find his absence so unbearable that we prefer to celebrate his birth—one of those births that are honored worldwide. Another birth that humanity owes to Africa.”
